Morning Practice – Prana Kriya Yoga

The Prana Kriya Yoga sessions will allow you to experience the essence and authenticity of true Kriya Yoga with Yogi Ashokananda’s signature style of Prana Kriya Yoga.

Regardless of your physical strength and ability, Yogi will expertly guide you so that you can experience the layer of your highest consciousness by focusing on the fundamental principles of the practice. In these energetic and empowering sessions, we will go into fascinating detail and experience of Prana Kriya Yoga, covering kumbhakas (breath retention), mudras, kriyas and the five pranas.

Prana Kriya Yoga harmonises and unites the flow of the physical movement in our bodies (kriya) with its energetic power helping you become aware of your creative potential.

This form of yoga is one of the most effective means by which to achieve your goals and aspirations, material, emotional and spiritual, and bring your actions in line with your mental and emotional state. Prana Kriya Yoga has also long been highly regarded among many great masters and yogis to hold the key to slowing down the ageing process. It achieves this by recharging the blood with oxygen and decarbonising it, thus rejuvenating the brain and spinal centre and preventing the decay of tissues in the body. It awakens the hidden energy (kundalini) within you allowing you to transform and free yourself from limiting beliefs and old behavioural patterns that hold you back.

Late Morning Practice – Atma Kriya Meditation

Atma Kriya Meditation to be guided by Yogi Ashokananda in the granite stone, purpose built meditation dome, Buddha Bowl.  Practices will be conducted during the late morning each day of the Retreat.  Yogi has discovered that meditation is one of the most powerful and subtle ways of getting to know yourself, and to understand who are we.  This exploration of the self helps you to explore the depth and subtleties of both our human self and our spiritual self – known as “swadharma” – finding the centre of yourself, your self religion.

The evening sessions will allow you to experience the essence and authenticity of true Hatha Yoga with Yogi Ashokananda’s signature style of Himalayan Hatha Yoga

The various Himalayan Hatha Yoga practices experienced throughout the Retreat will have specific focuses, including:

  • energise, strengthen restore and connect, body, breath & mind.  You will be guided through Himalayan Hatha Yoga series to create lightness, freedom and space within your body. This is an energetic practice giving you psychological as well as physical strength.
  • release stress focusing on unwinding and releasing toxins and undigested emotions from organs and the nervous system which are collected throughout the day.  This is gentler practice to help calm the central nervous system for a good night’s sleep.
  • letting go and acceptance on physical, mental & emotional levels, This is a restorative practice to rejuvenate & restore the central nervous system and help you to feel more grounded.

Pranayama (Breathing), Meditation, Mindfulness and Chanting will complement the twice daily yoga practices to help you connect more deeply to your spiritual self. 

These practices of Yoga & Meditation can help you return to a place within you which is both magical and very real. When you rediscover this place, your life will change around you as your perception shifts and you see through new eyes. It is not about running away from yourself or creating a fantasy, it is in fact the opposite; it is based on staying with yourself, on every level and with every aspect of your physical body as well as your emotional and psychological self.

Retreat Host – Yogi Ashokananda 

Yogi Ashokananda is an expert and pioneer as a practising master of yoga, meditation and spirituality. He has dedicated his entire adult life in service to humanity by teaching, mentoring, writing, learning and speaking on yoga, meditation and spirituality.

Raised in India, he has been practising yoga since early childhood when his Grandfather was his first teacher.

Over many years Yogi Ashokananda has been fortunate to develop his teaching, experience and education of yoga under some of the great, remote, Indian masters and siddhas.   The Gurukul style of learning with the masters, influenced Yogi’s experience and inspiration to develop his own profound yoga & meditation disciplines and insights which have their roots in the ancient, sacred Indian tradition.   The outcome of this period in his life resulting in Himalayan Hatha Yoga, Prana Kriya Yoga, ATMA Meditation & Science of Relaxation. 

Location – Yogiville India

Yogiville is a complete site for travellers, retreat guests, training groups and day visitors.  Yogiville includes a variety of accommodations (Ashok Tree), kitchen, indoor, outdoor and open dining areas (Ananda Kitchen), purpose built yogashala in the round, Yajnashala for self practice, Meditation Dome, Temple area, swimming pool, Neuroprana Wellness Centre, farmland, orchards, cows and goshalas, roaming footpaths, hammock areas, a gift shop, charity projects including a Primary School, Sita Devi Charity School, on adjacent property. 

The entire location has been developing since 2012 at the keen vision of Yogi Ashokananda.  Designed for sadhana. 

At Yogiville, we are traditional with our approach, for example, the food prepared is grown onsite or locally, is organic and will follow sattvic principles, i.e. all vegetarian, no eggs, onion, garlic or mushrooms.  Breakfast, lunch & dinner (possibly brunch) are provided, with the most amazing fruit available throughout the day to snack on along w/ chai, herbal teas (sourced from our own farm) and filtered water. 

We see yoga as a way of life, not just a physical practice and the approach we take to nutrition / food is just one example.    Another example, is how critical yoga and meditation are to the onsite charity school we support.  You will see for yourself, the 1st two classes of each day for all of the students are yoga and meditation.   The classes / practice is integral to their education, health, behaviour and focus.  We really hope that the school can change the future for these children, as we get back to basics with yoga.  And yet another example is the natural environment which will support the retreat. 

Hill trekking

We have over 12 acres of land on the outside of the village, which is on the outskirts of the town of Tiruvannamalai.  The land has been transformed over the past few years into a homeland for many new and returning species, flora & fauna.  We have many fields dedicated to orchards and farming of many types of vegetables for people and the cows & dogs we rescued.  We believe that reconnecting with nature is part of the yoga retreat experience.

During your free time you can visit the Sita Devi Charity School, visit the town, trekking, local sightseeing, chill in hammocks, Karma Yoga or stay in your own bubble or read a book.

Guest House One

Our first guest house includes 8 ground floor and 1st floor rooms, approximately 176 Sq Ft in size, all with en-suite bathrooms, hot water.  1st floor rooms with balconies and ground floor rooms with verandas & hammocks.  

Ashok Tree Standard Room

All rooms have screens, ceiling fans and some rooms have air conditioning.  The rooftop if accessible for practice, photographs or simply to enjoy the views throughout the day with special views at sunrise and sunset.    These rooms are ideal for single guests on a private basis, as rooms are fitted with a single bed. 

Guest House Two

The second guest house is similar to the first guest house, although these 8 rooms are larger than guest house 1.  These rooms are 256 SQ FT in size, all with en-suite bathrooms with hot water.  Screens, ceiling and air conditioning fitted in each room for your comfort. 

Ashok Tree Deluxe Room

These rooms are ideal for single guests on a private basis and for 2 guests on a shared basis.  Rooms have double beds or 2 single beds.

These two guest houses face east towards Mt Arunachala and the back views are to the west over the hills.

Guest House Three

Guest house 3 opened in 2019, our newest rooms and our largest rooms at 350 SQ FT.   The 6 rooms are on the 1st floor above the Neuroprana Wellness Centre.  They have been fitted with stone floors throughout, double glazed floor to ceiling windows, screens, ceiling fans and air conditioning.  The hot water is primarily provided via solar heating with backup for those few days where the sun may be taking a break.    These rooms are ideal for guests who wish to have a bit more privacy on a private or shared basis.  All rooms have 2 single/double beds.

Guest House Four

Our 4th guest house, opened in 2019, offers basic accommodations in 4 150 SQ FT rooms.  These 1st floor rooms have a simple bed or two and a ceiling fan with bathroom facilities on the ground floor, one dedicated to men and one to ladies.  These are the budget rooms, providing a lower price point for travellers and volunteers.

Building 4 rooms either face south or north with views of either the swimming pool or the yogashala and hills to the north.  

Meals

Vegetarian & plant based meals are prepared onsite and meal time and served in Ananda Kitchen.  Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner will be offered each day of the retreat with fruits and herbal teas are available throughout the day.  All our food is sattvic – vegetarian, without onion, garlic or mushrooms..  We source local, organic seasonal produce and our herbal teas, sourced from our gardens.

Cave Trek

Guided tour to two important caves on Arunachala that have been used by Enlightened masters for meditation over many centuries, for more than a thousand years. These caves hold the energy of high consciousness, which can be experienced within.  Virupaksha Cave is one such high energy cave.   We will also visit Skandashram, Sri Ramana Maharishi’s first ashram on Arunachala.

Following the Cave Trek, you will visit Sri Ramana Ashram.  The ashram is a highly spiritual enriching place and there are temples and meditation halls to visit.  Depending on the time of day of our visit, we can spend time meditating in the meditation hall, it is a delightful place to meditate, we may observe or participate in the rituals of puja or Vedaparayana, boys from the onsite Gurukul lead the vedic chanting. 

There is shrine devoted to Lord Shiva and pujas are conducted here on Fridays, special days and all full moon days. The tomb of Sri Ramana is located inside the ashram in a mantap. Peacocks roam freely through the ashram.

Meditation – Journey of Self Discovery

Arunachaleswarar Temple

Guided tour of this significant 9th century temple, believed to be the largest in the world dedicated to Siva. The temple complex covers 10 hectares, and is one of the largest in India.  It houses four gateway towers known as gopurams. The tallest is the eastern tower, with 11 stories and a height of 66 metres (217 ft), making it one of the tallest temple towers in India The temple has numerous shrines, with those of Arunachalesvara and Unnamalai Amman being the most prominent.

The temple complex houses many halls; the most notable is the thousand-pillared where Sri Ramana achieved Samādhi, the blissful return to our Divine origin.

Retreat Treatment – Neuroprana Wellness

Neuroprana Wellness Clinic, our onsite Ayurveda & Naturopathy centre, offers different options for Ayurvedic & Naturopathic treatments on a residential basis or as a walk-in patient. Treatments, services and courses include cleanses, consultations with the Ayurvedic doctor and Ayurveda courses. Ayurveda patients also benefit from the yoga and meditation facilities and are encouraged to participate in daily yoga classes to complement their treatments.

Ayurveda originated in India more than five thousand years ago and is the oldest continually practiced healthcare tradition in the world. Its written source is found in the ancients texts of the Vedas, transcribed by great sages and seers who produced India’s original systems of Astrology, Yoga and Meditation.

“Ayur” means “span of life” and “Veda” means “knowledge.”

Simply put, Ayurveda concerns itself with the maintenance, quality and longevity of life. The Science of Life.

Ayurvedic Abhyanga

A 60 minute (full body massage) is included in this retreat. Abhyanga Treatment is performed using warm medicated oils.  This is a full body massage with light pressure applied on sensitive areas, nerve endings such as soles of the feet and palms and base of the fingers.  After a healing massage, the oil is left on the body to do its magic.
